Alphabet Soup that’s good for you!

There are several technologies that can be very important to facility life-cycle management.
Here’s an alphabetical listing for your review and comment.
1. BIM – Building Information Modeling – Centralized information repository for life-cycle management.
2. BAS – Building Automation System – Automatic building controls/sensor system – HVAC/environmental, access control/security.
3. CAFM – Computer-Aid Facility Management System – Use of 2-D CAD (computer-aided design) for facility management, historically digital space planning, utilization.
4. Cost Estimating and Project Management – Cost estimating, project management, document management, visual estimating, which can be generic or tailor to support specific contracts/project delivery methods (JOC, SABER, IDIQ, SATOC, MATOC, MACC, POCA, BOA).
5. CMMS – Computerized Maintenance Management System – Maintenance/repair/work order management for “movable” equipment.
6. CPMS – Capital Planning and Management System – Physical/functional condition management and associated deficiencies/costing/scenario modeling – Major building systems, ADA, Security, etc. etc.
6. GIS – Geographic Information System – Digital technology representing location data via 2D-3D, data, and/or imagery.
7. IWMS – Integrated Workplace Management System – Any combination of the above.
