How much information should an estimator give?

I recently saw these questions on Linked-in. “Is asking for an estimators/contractors breakdown and takeoff for their proposal a fair request?” “How much information should an estimator give?”

In our worlds of JOC and SABER asking detailed unit price breakdowns is not only a reasonably request, but standard practice. Detailed line item estimates, including line item modifiers are key helping Owners and Contractors to more accurately define a project’s scope of work in addition to following established regulations. An Internal Government Estimate (IGE) is compared to the Contractor’s estimate and any discrepancies are reviewed and addressed.

Perhaps there would be less time and other resources wasted if all construction delivery methods were equally collaborative and transparent.
